Thou Hast Ravished My Heart

Thou Hast Ravished My Heart measures unframed 16 x 20 inches and is an original oil on canvas. In the tradition of the Old Masters, I use walnut oil glazes to build depth and saturation of color. This is the third in a series using one of the ten angel sculptures by Bernini that can be found on the Ponte Sant'Angelo (the Bridge of Angels) in Rome. Spanning the Tiber River, each angel holds a symbol of Christ's suffering and death. In these pieces I use a dramatic and foreboding sky in contrast to a vivid green and soothing landscape. The Bernini angel  - the Angel with the Lance - looms large in the environment, this particular sculpture is an angel holding the Roman lance that pierced the heart of the Son of God upon the cross. "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son..." The frame is made from a heavy solid wood with a beautiful gold finish. The outside measurements are 22.5 x 26.5 inches.
