The piece over the conference table is a painting I did of the lake district in Italy, an area I know the client enjoys, and also the mood of the painting is peaceful with the water yet powerful with the mountains.

I had a fireplace installed where there had originally been one. I chose a dark grey granite surround with a black cast iron insert to give the sense of stability and structure. The gold Victorian fireplace mirror was an original that I had restored, along with the clock. I intended to cover very little of the magnificent floorboards from the 1700's and placed a single plush Persian carpet for comfort in front of the fireplace.

To keep to the Italian theme I added a tapestry from Italy with the subject of flowers to bring beauty and a little femininity to the space. The ceiling and two windows were incredibly high and I wanted to give a feeling of lightness -to lift upwards- after all the weight of the dark wooden floors, dark furniture and granite fireplace. So for the window treatment I chose a semi-translucent linen fabric with subtle vertical stripes that complimented the wall color.
